Week 3: Consuming Religion
This week professor Vincent Miller explained that a commodity is a product like a banana that one purchases based on it price, appearance and desirability (i.e. at only face value), without concern about its background. He hypothesised that people are approaching religion in this matter which is leading to a shallow understanding of articles of faith and the formation of identity groups within the Church which weaken its unity and universality.

Week 1: 12 Steps to Heaven
This week Kevin Prendergast, a pastoral councilor from Athenaeum, explained how addictions are often the result of selfishness, fear, and resentment. They can only be overcome by acknowledging one’s powerlessness and allowing a higher power to take over. He discussed how 12 step programs are parallel to the spiritual exercises of St. Ignatius.
