October 20, 2011 — Our final meeting of the season! Tonight we ended our ToT season with the Archdiocese of Cincinnati’s new auxiliary bishop, Bishop Binzer, who shared his discernment journey “from CPA to Bishop.” A Question & Answer session with Bishop Binzer followed. Thank you to Bishop Binzer, and to all of our many speakers this season who generously gave of their time and knowledge.

“Week 5: Prodigious Peers Ponder Participation in Parishes…’Nuf Said”

October 13, 2011 – This week at Theology on Tap, we hosted a panel of young adults who spoke on young adult ministry and participation in parishes. The night began with hearing some of their conversion stories, as well as what they have experienced attracts young adults to become involved in their faith and ministry. The night concluded with some additional Q & A with those in attendance.

Please join us next week 10/20 at 7:30pm as Theology on Tap hosts Bishop Joseph Binzer! The title of his talk is “My Hope is in the Lord: From CPA to Bishop.” (Come at 7 for trivia and to get a good seat!)

October 6, 2011 – This week at Theology on Tap, Nicole Muhlenkamp came to speak to us about Theology of the Body. Nicole is a graduate of the John Paul II Institute and completed her Master’s degree in Marriage & Family. Nicole spoke to us about how we can more fully live out the message of Theology of the Body through our lives and provided answers to difficult questions about our faith. Week 3: Crossroads Conversion Story: One Man’s Journey to Spiritual Recovery

September 29, 2011 – Mark Newman from Radio Maria, came to speak to Theology on Tap tonight about his conversion story. Originally raised in a Baptist home where his father was a preacher and his mother a music minister, Mark’s life has gone through many changes. Mark gave an inspiring talk on how he went from being dependent upon alcohol, to being dependent upon God. Through RCIA and the Eucharist, Mark shared how God “purged” him of his alcohol addiction and replaced these sinful desires with a desire for Christ in the Eucharist.

Week 2: Silent and Deadly: Life Issues You Won’t Hear About on Sunday

September 22, 2011 – This week at ToT, Dr. Ashley Fernandes shared with us “myths and truths” of the Catholic Church’s view on life, based on the writings of Pope Paul VI’s Humanae Vitae. Some of the topics he spoke on included contraception, abortion, and in vitro fertilization. Dr. Fernandes also shared with us some of his conversion story, and provided us with scientific research findings that demonstrate how oral contraceptives can be abortifacient in nature. Natural Family Planning (or “NFP”) resources are listed below:

Cervical fluid/mucus changes accurately detect ovulation ( Alliende et. al, Am J Obstet Gynecol, 2005; Bigelow et. al, Hum Reprod 2004 )

Couples using NFP reported 75% overall positive effects on marital relationship ( Vande Vusse et. al, J Nursing Scolarsh, 2003 )

June 2, 2011 – Our final week of the Spring 2011 season, Sean Gallivan came to Theology on Tap to talk about life issues, including abortion and contraception, and how using Natural Family Planning provides the fullest (and only) expression of free, total, faithful, and fruitful love towards our spouse / future spouse. We are grateful to Sean, as well as to all of our speakers this season, for sharing their faith, knowledge, and time with us.

Although this concludes our Spring 2011 season of ToT, “Catholic Life”, another Catholic young adults group, will be starting up next week. Join them on Thursdays at 7pm at Panera on Brown Street to continue learning and supporting one another in faith.
